The Bodleian Library, also referred to as Bodley's Library, was a library in Oxford made up of several buildings, including Duke Humfrey. It contained some of the few texts on alethiometers, and served as the site for Hannah Relf, along with half a dozen other scholars, to conduct research on the subject. The Bodleian alethiometer was kept at the library before the instrument's destruction. Harry Dibdin worked at the Bodleian Library.
Lyra, when she was 18, sat in this library, studying the alethiometer with the help of a pile of books. Here, she realised there was a pattern in the sequence of symbols the hands moved to.
