Ivan Dimitrovich Poliakov was a politician in Novy Odense. He was running for mayor of the town against the mayor at the time when Lee Scoresby arrived on the island. He had a daughter, Olga Poliakova.
Biography[]
Poliakov was a former member of the Senate at Novgorod and had to resign due to a financial scandal. He was going to use the mayoral election to become a Senator again.
On 14 April 1962, Poliakov made a speech at the Novy Odense town hall as part of his campaign to become mayor in the upcoming elections. Ostensibly, his policy was the ostracism of the panserbjørne from the town.
Poliakov employed Pierre McConville to try and rid the Dutchman H van Breda from the island, he also offered Lee the job of helping to spy.[1]
