His Dark Materials

Keats was a poet from Will's world. Mary Malone quoted one of his poems to Lyra Silvertongue when she first visited the Dark Matter Research Unit, explaining how to use the Cave.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • The quote Mary reads to Lyra is taken from John's letter to George and Thomas Keats on December 22, 1817 and reads "uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason".
  • A quote from John Keats heads chapter 28 of The Amber Spyglass.
