Norman was a peacock who, along with Barry, stalked around the Terrace Room in The Trout Inn above the River Thames. He would walk among the drinkers and take food, occasionally letting out a menacing scream.[1] When Hannah Relf came to The Trout to talk to Malcolm Polstead, one of the peacocks eyed her sandwich.[2] Later, Malcolm saw one of the peacocks drowned and draped over a bush on the terrace[3] and both peacocks died in the flood. Another two peafowl named Norman and Barry later became part of the Trout.[4]
