Oy, I read The Amber Spyglass a while back, and there's this one plot detail that I'm still really confused about.
So, the transition between the 2nd and 3rd book is entirely seamless--no jumps in time whatsoever. This means that Mrs. Coulter caused the spectres to kill the witches and then abducted Lyra within the 30 minutes to an hour in which Will was climbing the mountain.
Now, this all takes place somewhere in the foothills of Cittagazze. Since you can portal-hop from Oxford to Cittagazze, then the city must be in an alternate-world equivalent of England, yeah? As in, it's a giant island separated from Europe.
So, how does Mrs. Coulter get from England to the Himalayas, in an hour, alone, with no technology and nobody to help her?
Come to think of it, how does Will himself get from England to an alternate Russia later on?
