This man was the Turkish Ambassador for Brytain. When Lyra Belacqua visited the Fens, she told a story to the gyptian children about him. She said that he visited Jordan College to have dinner once, and that he was under orders from the Sultan of Turki to kill Lord Asriel. According to Lyra's story, the ambassador poured poison into Asriel's glass. However, Asriel supposedly proposed that he and the ambassador switch glasses as a symbol of friendship between Jordan and the Turkish College of Izmir. He drank from the poisoned glass, and died.[1]
